The CCAT Test at Crossover

Last updated: September 2026

Crossover is publicly listed among the employers that use Criteria's cognitive assessments, and candidates report the CCAT — 50 questions, 15 minutes — as part of screening for many of its remote roles. It's the same test form used across Criteria's employer network, so practice transfers directly.

Why Crossover uses a cognitive test

Crossover hires remotely at scale across many countries. For that kind of pipeline, a timed aptitude test is a cheap, consistent filter: it measures how quickly candidates handle unfamiliar problems, independent of where they went to school or which language they interview in. Whether you agree with the practice or not, the useful move is to treat the CCAT as its own skill and train it.

What the test looks like

A one-week prep plan that fits around a job search

  1. Day 1: one full 15-minute set, no breaks. Expect to run out of time. The point is calibration.
  2. Days 2–3: drill your two weakest categories untimed. Learn the pattern rules (figure series and number series follow a small set of progressions).
  3. Day 4: second full set. Use the 5-second rule: if the logic isn't visible quickly, guess and move.
  4. Days 5–6: alternating category drills and full sets. Never leave a blank in any run.
  5. Day 7: one final full set, then stop. Review the pacing, not the questions.

Frequently asked questions

Does Crossover use the CCAT?

Crossover is publicly listed among Criteria's CCAT employers, and candidate reports describe it as part of the screening for many remote roles. Confirm the format from your own invitation — it will name the test.

What score do I need?

The cutoff is the employer's and isn't published. Scores are percentiles against a professional norm group, so train against the clock rather than aiming at a raw number. See the score guide.

Is it proctored?

Many CCAT employers proctor with a webcam and screen sharing. Your invitation decides that, not the test. Set up early and clear your desk — proctoring rules usually require an empty workspace and a room scan.

Can I practice the exact questions?

The items are proprietary and unpublished. What transfers is format and pacing — that's what our practice test trains.
