Admissions test, not an aptitude test

The SAT tests the school material you have already been taught — algebra, grammar, reading comprehension — not raw reasoning speed. Train for the wrong clock and you train for the wrong test.

The question families

Reading and Writing (54 questions, 64 minutes) runs on short passages, one question each, across four domains:

Math (44 questions, 70 minutes) allows a calculator throughout and covers four domains:

Because each of our practice sets is 50 questions in 70 minutes, one set crosses every family — a full sample of what test day looks like.

How the score reads

Each section is scored 200–800; the total is their sum, 400–1600. The digital SAT is adaptive at the module level: your performance on module 1 routes you to a harder or easier module 2, and the scoring accounts for that routing, so a harder module 2 earns more per correct answer. There is no penalty for guessing — an answer can only help. Many colleges superscore, taking your best section scores across test dates.

A five-day curriculum

DayFocusWork
1BaselineTake one full 50-in-70 practice test cold. Score it. The gap between where you are and where you want to be sets the plan.
2Reading and WritingDrill Information and Ideas and Standard English Conventions — the two most learnable domains.
3MathAlgebra first: it is the largest domain and the one every other math topic assumes.
4ClockOne timed section. If accuracy collapses under time, accuracy is the problem, not speed.
5ReviewRe-do every missed question cold. Misses that survive a second look are content gaps, not slips.

The clock rule

Reading and Writing gives you about 71 seconds per question; Math gives about 95. Our practice sets give you 50 questions in 70 minutes — 84 seconds per question — and the free sample gives you 8 questions at the same pace (672 seconds total). Train at the real clock from day one. Questions answered slowly but correctly on an untimed drill do not transfer.

Frequently asked questions

How is it scored?

200–800 per section, summed to 400–1600. Adaptive module routing is factored into the scoring, and many colleges superscore across test dates.

What does adaptive mean in practice?

Each section has two modules. Your module 1 performance decides whether module 2 is harder or easier. The takeaway: module 1 matters more than it looks, so do not pace it as a throwaway.

Is there a penalty for guessing?

No. Answer every question. A guess can only help your score; a blank cannot.
