The Finastra CCAT Test
Last updated: September 2026
Finastra uses the CCAT — 50 questions in 15 minutes — to screen candidates for consulting and technical roles, most visibly the Associate Consultant Technology track (Tiers I and II, plus entry level). As a Vista Equity Partners portfolio company, its cutoffs track the Vista playbook: candidate reports point to a bar around the 70th percentile.
Why Finastra uses the CCAT
Finastra is one of the world's largest fintech companies — retail and transaction banking, lending, and treasury software serving thousands of financial institutions in 130+ countries. Vista Equity Partners standardized cognitive screening across its software portfolio, and Finastra applies it to the consulting-track and technical roles where quick learning under pressure is the job description.
What the test looks like
- 50 questions, 15 minutes — about 18 seconds per question, and almost nobody finishes all 50
- Three question families: verbal (synonyms, sentence logic, true/false statement analysis), numerical (word problems, number series, ratios, averages), spatial (figure series, matrices, pattern rotation)
- No penalty for guessing — a wrong answer scores the same as a blank, so answer everything
- No going back — once you move on, the question is gone
- Scratch paper allowed; calculators not
The Associate Consultant Technology (ACT) track
Most CCAT reports from Finastra candidates come from the ACT program — Finastra's consulting development track. Recruiters commonly describe the CCAT as the first gate after application, before recruiter interviews. The higher the tier, the higher the bar: entry-level candidates report cutoffs in the 60th–70th percentile range, with senior consulting and product roles pushing toward the 80th.
How to prepare
- Train at full pace. The CCAT is a pacing test. Run complete 50-question sets under a real 15-minute clock — solo timed sections don't build the same reflexes.
- Drill mental math. Averages, ratios, and number series with no calculator. The deltas-to-target trick for averages questions saves whole minutes.
- Learn the spatial patterns. Figure series follow a small set of progressions (rotation, addition, movement by increasing steps). Recognizing the pattern family is most of the battle.
- Bank the true/false verbal items fast. They're the quickest to answer correctly when fresh — treat them as early points.
- Set a skip rule. If you're not committed in ~20 seconds, guess and move. Stuck time is the score killer.

Frequently asked questions
What score do I need to pass?
Finastra doesn't publish one. Vista-portfolio roles commonly target the 70th percentile (~low 30s raw); entry ACT candidates report 60th–70th. Aim above 32/50 in untimed practice before you attempt a timed run.
Can I retake the CCAT if I fail?
Criteria's retake policy is employer-controlled — typically 6–12 months before a retest. Don't plan around a retake; prepare before you start.
Is it proctored?
Depends on the role. Assume a quiet, solo, one-sitting session — the format punishes interruptions either way.
How soon should I start preparing?
The CCAT rewards familiarity with pacing, which takes days, not months. A focused week (one full timed set daily, plus category drills) moves scores more than cramming the night before.
