CCAT vs Wonderlic

Last updated: October 2026

Similar shape, different details. Both are 50-question multiple-choice cognitive screens, but the CCAT gives 15 minutes (about 18 seconds a question) while the classic Wonderlic gives 12 (about 14). The CCAT reports a percentile against a working-adult norm group; the Wonderlic is read as a 0–50 raw score. Preparation is nearly identical: pace, triage, and never leave a blank.

Why people compare them

Because the experience is close enough to confuse. Both measure general aptitude under a hard clock, both are taken online through an assessment platform, and both are calibrated so that finishing is not the point. A candidate who preps properly for one will recognize most of what the other throws at them. The two differences that matter are pacing (three fewer seconds per question on the Wonderlic) and reporting (percentile versus raw score).

How the preparation overlaps

Practicing for either test builds the same three muscles:

A week of timed practice moves the needle on either test. See our 3-day and 7-day CCAT study plans.

Which one are you taking?

Check the assessment invite. Links to criteriacorp.com or ondemandassessment.com mean the CCAT — or Criteria's language-independent sibling, the UCAT. Other publishers, Wonderlic included, run their own platforms. If the invite names the test, the CCAT test guide covers the full format.

Frequently asked questions

Is the CCAT the same as the Wonderlic?

No. They are competing tests from different publishers (Criteria Corp and Wonderlic) with a similar shape: both are 50-question multiple-choice cognitive screens used in hiring. But the CCAT gives 15 minutes while the classic Wonderlic gives 12, and they report results differently.

Which is harder, the CCAT or the Wonderlic?

The Wonderlic is slightly faster: 50 questions in 12 minutes is about 14 seconds per question, against the CCAT's roughly 18. Both are calibrated so that almost nobody finishes. Neither is harder in content — both stay at or near school level — so the difference you feel is the clock.

Do companies accept one test in place of the other?

No. Each employer picks its own screen, and a CCAT score does not substitute for a Wonderlic score or the reverse. If your interview includes an assessment, the invitation links will tell you which publisher is running it.

Does preparing for the CCAT also prepare me for the Wonderlic?

Largely yes. Both reward the same three skills: fast mental math, pattern recognition, and ruthless triage. Timed full-length practice sets in either format transfer well to the other; only the clock speed differs.

What is a good Wonderlic score?

The classic Wonderlic is reported as a raw score out of 50 (about 20 is the commonly cited midpoint for adults), and employers set their own targets per role. Compare with the CCAT, where about 24 of 50 is the 50th percentile and cutoffs are read as percentiles.
